The future of urban logistics.

The use of drones will allow to respond to the demands of control and logistics of the new operational structure of large cities.

reinvention and value generation are two of the key words in the transport and logistics sector; a sector characterized by being a channelizer of economic growth through innovation and sustainability.

The different population studies appraise that by 2030 60% of the world's population will be urban, this will lead to a necessary operational restructuring of the mobility of large cities. To meet such demand from the aeronautical sector, around 12 countries are working on projects such as Urban Air Mobility as well as the Flying Forward project.

It is no a secret to anyone that big cities are changing, and with them daily logistics from the transfer of people and goods that requires innovative nuances that focus on three main objectives:

1) Cost reduction.

2) Time management.

3) Environmental care.

Priority factors for developing solutions by the aeronautical sector and the search for added value through the use of drones.

Nowadays the following uses are proposed in the urban-operational field:

• Mass control by capturing images.

• Pedestrian mobility control at times of perimeter closure of the city.

• Small parcel transfer from the polygons to the city center (last mile).

However, like any project it poses legal challenges and operational challenges. Let's address both contexts.

OPERATIONAL CHALLENGES:

• Ensure safe airworthy.

• Logistics for unloading goods in urban centers.

From a regulatory point of view, the legislation applicable to the use and manufacture of drones is being established in different countries in a scenario of some legal certainty around three major categories for use: open, specific and certified, depending on the weight, height and end use of the device.

In addition, regulations in distances that allow to have a complementary project to the air cargo transportation and keep safe its operational functionality within the transport of goods.

In short, urban air mobility is creating an ideal context for public-private initiatives that generate investment and innovation synergies for the development of solutions driving the growth of the logistics sector at the global level.
